The residential high-rise buildings in Ulm-Böfingen are a striking and highly visible feature of the urban landscape. To bring the building into line with current technical requirements, its shell has needed to be redeveloped. The challenge facing the plan has been to give the new facades a high quality of design without making the buildings appear too imposing within their built-up surroundings. In order to make the three buildings easier to identify, each has been given a different basic colour scheme in metallic, near-natural shades which harmonise with each other. The slight surface sheen lends an elegant lightness and freshness to the buildings. Their appearance changes depending on the lighting and the incidence of light. The existing structure of the facades, characterised by protruding balconies, ribbon windows and balustrades, remains intact. On the entrance sides, the aluminium plates are fitted with screen printings to identify each house number. Canopies with sections of glass provide daylight for the areas in front of the main doors.
