The building is set up like a huge log pile on a glade at the fringe of the Cityforest of Freiburg. It's architecture symbolizes the thematical contents of the forest-house: forest, wood, ecology. The glazed exibition areas of the ground floor are arranged around the central lumberyard. The foyer is extended to the long boardwalk on which the visitor reaches the view point almost on level with the treetops. Due to the transparency of the base of the building the entrance level seems to hover above the slope and the building appears light and dynamic.
