In order to expand the public indoor swimming facilities in Böblingen, the Schönaicher Strasse indoor pool will be extensively modernized and made more energy-efficient, and a 10 x 25 metre sports pool will be added. The new extension is intended to increase the choice of indoor pools and to be used as a self-contained school swimming pool at the same time. The new construction picks up from the northern edge of the existing building and continues its present structure. This will enlarge the outdoor area of the pool to the south and form a clear edge between it and the footpath to the north. At the level of the new building this path widens into a forecourt, forming the new entrance for pupils and allowing views into the indoor bathing area.
