The international research site of CERN is to be transformed into an attractive campus. This new campus is intended to combine life, work and social activities. The general principle for the new campus as well as the interlinking element is a circle similar to the CERN logo. This circle is the pivotal and turning point the meeting place and distribution point. The campus is divided into four sectors, each of which maintains its own identity, thanks to the circular element. The prelude to the site is created by the entrance plaza with the new, extremely striking main building. The plaza and the building form the gateway to the campus and interlink the inner and outer areas. This is the point where the existing “Globe of Science” is linked across roads with the new emblem in the form of a highly visible architectural landmark.
