The HEIDE SPA in Bad Düben opened in 2000 and combines a water park, sauna, wellness facilities, therapy, and a hotel into a comprehensive health and recreation destination in the Dübener Heide. The building complex also includes areas for spa treatments and a conference hall. The planned renovation aims to reposition the facility and prepare it for the demands of the coming years. 4a Architekten is currently developing the design plans for the redevelopment of the swimming and sauna areas. The scope of services also includes planning for building permits and assistance with applying for grants. The first construction phase will initially focus on the bathing and sauna areas; spa treatments and the conference hall will follow in a later phase.
The planning focuses on a functional reorganization and a significant improvement in the quality of the visitor experience. The existing pool program is intended to offer more health-oriented options in the future. The plan calls for a varied pool program with different water temperatures, including hot and cold pools as well as an intensive saltwater pool. In addition, sauna cabins are to be integrated into the swimming area to more closely link swimming, health, and relaxation. The sauna area will also gain additional amenities and space. To achieve this, existing potential will be utilized: Part of the currently very spacious changing area will be incorporated into the sauna in the future. This creates space for new uses within the existing structure.
For 4a Architekten, the project combines two central areas of expertise: swimming pool construction and renovation of existing buildings. Analyzing available structures and qualities and developing a viable concept from them is just as important as coordinating operational processes, technical requirements, and design aspects. The goal is to create a solution that enhances the HEIDE SPA spatially, functionally, and atmospherically, positioning it as a sustainable destination for health, leisure, and wellness.
