The Kurbad Königstein has been a listed building since 2013. The spa was planned in the 1970s by the architects Geier + Geier in collaboration with the Stuttgart artist Otto Herbert Hajek. Now, the listed building is to be renovated and eventually extended while the spa is still in operation. Situated on a slope, the asymmetrically designed structure has four floors with terraced areas in front. Characteristic for the baths is its materiality – the exposed concrete building represents the architectural style of Brutalism – as well as the striking color scheme, which is typical for the artist Hajek. The complementary colors of blue and orange set the building apart from the surrounding green space and the urban landscape in a way that is visible from afar. This characteristic design, which also includes the generous glazing, was also consistently continued in the interior down to the last detail.
