The lecture hall at Mannheim Palace was designed for 182 students and was converted as part of the “Renaissance of the Baroque Palace” project. Due to a lack of public funds, financing was taken over by sponsors. In return, the lecture hall can be used for presenting the company and more recently also for acquiring future staff. These specific parameters were decisive for the design. A dynamically tensioned lamella ribbon detaches itself in form and materiality from the surrounding historic setting, which makes it a symbol for the close bond with the students starting out in their working lives and equally for the cohesion of the companies within the Röchling Holding Company. A new dynamism has been created in the old palace, expressing the innovative interplay between student, sponsors and the university.
