In the competition for the realization of the new functional building at the depot of Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH in Mannheim, 4a Architekten received recognition. The design for the new building with operations control center, depot canteen and training area for simulator-based training was carefully integrated into the urban environment by 4a Architekten. The aim was to develop a sustainable building with as many green spaces as possible. The building was constructed as a wood composite structure with glazed double facade – as noise protection and for natural ventilation. Through the balanced interplay of green spaces, architectural design and energy optimization, the new functional building gives identity to the entire area.
