4a Architekten, together with their planning partners schlaich bergermann partner, Planstatt Senner, Luces Ingenieure and Zirkularis were awarded 2nd prize in the competition for the new Saarburg leisure pool. The design is the result of an interdisciplinary collaborative effort that integrates architecture, structural engineering, landscape planning, building services, and sustainability strategies.

The starting point for the concept is the replacement of the indoor swimming pool, which was damaged by flooding and will in future be operated as an efficient combined indoor and outdoor pool together with the existing outdoor pool. A raised base serves as structural flood protection and at the same time forms a terraced recreation area that closely interlinks the indoor and outdoor spaces.

The clearly structured building with a differentiated roof landscape creates clearly defined functional areas and a bright, inviting swimming hall. The concept is complemented by a sustainable outdoor pool design with natural pools as retention and regeneration areas, a comprehensive energy and resource concept, and consistent barrier-free access.
