Even before the AQUABOX officially opens in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen on September 22, there is reason to celebrate: The innovative indoor swimming pool has been awarded the NFG VESTA 2026 Future Prize.

The AQUABOX represents a new concept in municipal swimming pool construction. This indoor pool is built using a modular wooden construction method, is designed to be dismantled, and is intended for use at multiple locations. After its first phase of use in Zuffenhausen, it is scheduled to be moved to Möhringen and later to Untertürkheim. In this way, the project combines prefabrication, reuse, and long-term use into a flexible infrastructure concept.

The AQUABOX was developed by POOL out of the BOX, which is responsible for its implementation as the general contractor. Together with 4a Architekten, Blumer Lehmann, and other specialist planners, the complex task of building an indoor swimming pool was transformed into a movable building system. 4a Architekten contributed their many years of expertise in swimming pool construction and developed an architectural design that combines functional and technical precision with high spatial and atmospheric quality.

A top-class jury of industry experts evaluated the submitted projects and solutions. The awards will be presented during the NFG Future Summit on September 14 and 15, 2026, in Berlin. The Future Prize honors projects and stakeholders who exemplify how current challenges in the construction and real estate industries can be addressed with innovative and sustainable approaches.
