4a Architekten have been awarded the contract to plan the comprehensive redevelopment of the Spessart Therme in Bad Soden-Salmünster. The client is Kur und Freizeit GmbH, a company owned by the City of Bad Soden-Salmünster. Drawing on their extensive experience in the design of swimming pools and thermal spas, as well as the renovation and transformation of existing buildings, 4a Architekten bring a broad range of expertise to this challenging project.

The aim is to redefine the spa's functional layout and architectural character. The existing pool halls and sauna facilities will be replaced by a new thermal bathing area offering a variety of pools and a redesigned sauna landscape. The existing changing rooms and wellness area will be retained in their structural form but reorganised and architecturally upgraded. The existing 25-metre pool for school swimming and swimming clubs will also be integrated into the overall concept.

The particular challenge lies in bringing the new and existing structures together to create a coherent architectural ensemble. Alongside efficient circulation and operational requirements, particular emphasis is placed on architectural quality and welcoming spaces with a distinctive atmosphere. The result will be a contemporary destination for health, relaxation and sport.
